I had envisioned myself having a nice, relaxing, lazy summer. Days spent at the pool and beach and evenings going for runs after Owen's bedtime and sitting on the couch watching reruns and movies with my hubby. Instead we have gone to Orlando, packed, moved, unpacked, entertained houseguests and now we are off to The Lake. Technically, it's Smith Mountain Lake back (closer to home) in central Virginia, but whenever Chris or his family refer to it- it's just "The Lake". Chris has been going to The Lake every summer since he was born. His family has a place there, a boat and 2 jet ski's. His parents live in Bluefield, Va and The Lake is a 2 hr drive from there. Chris' brother and wife Sheri (and their 3 kids, 4th due in Sept.) live about an hour and 15 minutes away. Everybody is so much closer and that is why we didn't make it out there last summer. So Saturday night at midnight we are leaving for the drive back. It is going to stink, yes, but we are hoping that by leaving at midnight that will (hopefully- please god) give us 7 hours worth of driving while Owen sleeps. The trip is expected to take us 10 hours total I believe. Flying would have been nice. Too bad nobody goes into Roanoke direct from Jacksonville and even with a connection at Dulles it would have cost us about $1,000 per seat. $1,000 X 3 = too much money to spend just for a trip back to Va. Tomorrow we have 2 birthday parties to go to during the day. That means that today I am doing laundry, packing, picking up food and drink items (Owen's beloved YoBaby yogurt drinks, Chris's Crown Royal) to bring with us and arranging the dog sitter (who charges us $45 a day! sheesh!). And all I really want is a lazy day hanging out on the beach with a cocktail:)

amen sister...I am loathing a 2 week trip to Myrtle coming up next Friday...10 hour drive, NOT relaxing like you would on an adult vacation, etc, etc.
Hope your trip goes smoothly!
I agree, nighttime driving is the only way to go...we will probably leave around 8 Friday night.
i hope you made it safely..and enjoy your time at the lake!!
